Michael Hotaling, MAI, ASA, started his appraisal career in Jacksonville in 2005 after moving from Orlando and Volusia County. Rather than focusing on a specific property type, he welcomed the opportunity to develop his skills toward a wide variety of property types. Mr. Hotaling has appraised or consulted on most commercial property types and, based on experience in a previous career, has extensive experience with automotive-based property types, especially auto dealerships, of which he has appraised over 120 in his career.

Joining Ron Moody with Moody Appraisal Group in 2018, Mr. Hotaling eventually became a partner and subsequent owner of Moody Williams Appraisal Group. In 2026, we rebranded to Hotaling Moody & Associates with the purpose of serving the community through the highest ethical and professional standards in the profession.

In addition to completing value estimates on proposed and existing properties, Michael Hotaling is also experienced in litigation valuation and is qualified as an expert witness in numerous state and federal courts.

Michael Hotaling is an MAI Designated Member of the Appraisal Institute and currently holds licenses in Florida and several other states throughout the Southeastern US. Michael Hotaling is the current President of the Jacksonville Chapter of the Appraisal Institute (2026). Michael Hotaling also holds the ASA designation from the American Society of Appraisers.

Mr. Hotaling has been active in professional organizations and serves on various committees, including Rotary and The Florida Bar. Michael Hotaling graduated from the University of Central Florida and is an Eagle Scout.
